After Patras,
after roadside fruit,
after bus sunset,
after years of promising
The siblings are visiting Athens
where the summer is turning the days long
Where the girls of Instagram
will stand just so
beside volcanic rock
and under canopy
Where the sky will feel bigger
and more open
for better or worse
Where the siblings will kick their feet
in the air conditioning
of a motel room
that goes plum-coloured at dusk
And at night,
when they walk through the city
under the smell of citrus flowers
Past a red light, a boulder,
A monument, a star
They’ll share a cigarette
a diet coke
And they'll remember each other
Their summer in Athens will be a movie
One about yearning
And trying to fall asleep
beneath a moon that's exactly like a pearl
